What the card shows

A knight in silver armour rides a white horse at an unhurried walk. There are wings on his helmet and at his heels, and over the armour he wears a surcoat patterned with red fish. He holds a golden cup out in front of him, carefully and upright, like a gift being carried to someone. The horse steps forward with head lowered and one foreleg lifted. A river winds across the plain toward trees and grey-blue mountains, and a brown, rocky bluff rises on the right.

Upright

At a walk, with no gallop, so the cup won’t spill: that is how the Knight of Cups follows his heart. Upright, he can bring a romantic proposal, an invitation, a declaration, someone arriving with feelings and fine words. Sometimes he is you, when you feel the pull of a dream, a creative idea or anything that has genuinely moved you. This knight is a dreamer, graceful and unwarlike, steered by imagination.

Wings on his helmet and heels speak of imagination. He holds the cup out in the open, his feeling on display. Follow the impulse and test its sincerity as you go: are you ready to do what you’re promising, and do you know whom you’re carrying this cup to, and why? A lovely gesture counts when an action follows it.

Keywords: romance, an offer, following your heart, charm, creative impulse

Reversed

Beautiful words, compliments, plans for the future, then nothing: the date is postponed, the project never starts, the declaration stays a declaration. The promise never quite arrives. The pattern belongs to someone else or to you, whenever saying is easier than doing, and occasionally the charm hides deliberate trickery. Judge by actions.

Sometimes the knight leaves the road and drifts along the river with nowhere in mind. Fantasies of a better life stand in for living it, and love for an ideal blocks the view of a real person. Moodiness belongs here too, and the habit of rushing to something new the moment the old thing asks for effort. Choose one project or one feeling and take it at least as far as one concrete step.

Keywords: empty promises, all talk, escapism, moodiness, seduction

Knight of Cups in relationships

Courtship, an invitation to dinner, a declaration, a proposal: the Knight of Cups is one of the most romantic cards in the deck. It can describe someone who expresses feelings beautifully, or your own wish to make a move. Reversed, keep an eye on follow-through: lovely promises that lead nowhere, someone who vanishes whenever anything needs deciding, a crush on an image. Enjoy the romance, and watch what happens after the flowers and the words.

Knight of Cups at work

Professionally the Knight of Cups brings offers to do with creativity, people and ideas: an invitation to join a project, a request to give a talk, a role where taste and empathy count. The reversed Knight is the brilliant pitch with no results, and your own habit of dropping things once the inspiration runs out. So follow what genuinely moves you while turning inspiration into a plan: first steps, who does what, what’s been agreed.

Knight of Cups as advice for the day

Think of a kind intention you’ve been carrying around for a while: to call, apologise, help, write, offer. Turn it into one concrete action and do it today; a short message counts. Then take stock of what you promise more often than you do, and to whom.

The card’s lesson

The Knight of Cups follows the heart while testing how sincere the intentions are.
