What the card shows
The queen sits upright, facing us, on a throne whose armrests end in lions’ heads. The tall back of the throne is pink, decorated with two red lions rearing up and with sunflowers. She wears a yellow gown, a pale cloak with a red clasp and a crown twined with greenery. In one hand she holds a tall wand in leaf, in the other a sunflower on a long stem. At her feet, on the step of the throne, sits a black cat looking straight at us. The sky is pale blue, with yellow hills in the distance.
Upright
She sits upright, wand in one hand, sunflower in the other, in no hurry at all. In the Queen the fire of Wands doesn’t leap out in flames; it burns steadily and reliably. She has no need to prove her strength. This is confidence that needs no loud words, the decisiveness of someone getting on with their own work, and independence: standing on your own feet without waiting for permission.
The wand stands for will and action; the sunflower is the flower that always turns toward the sun. The Queen of Wands joins drive with warmth, so her energy warms the people around her. The black cat at her feet looks like a household companion, independent and wilful; around this Queen you’re free to be yourself. The card can also describe someone near you, warm and vivid, the kind of person others are drawn to. Take the initiative in a way that makes things brighter for the people around you too.
Keywords: confidence, decisiveness, independence, warmth, charisma
Reversed
The sunflower turns away from the sun. Someone who can light others up suddenly stops believing in themselves, shelving their own projects, keeping quiet, accepting a supporting role where they used to lead. Sometimes it’s tiredness, sometimes a piece of criticism that hit a sore spot. Find one small reason to trust yourself again: work you finished, a kind word, something that worked out despite your doubts.
Fire meant to warm starts to scorch. You want all the attention, compete with people you could be supporting, and keep a jealous eye on other people’s success. Ask yourself honestly: do I need this to succeed, or do I need everyone to see that it was me? A true Queen doesn’t need the room to be dark around her.
Keywords: self-doubt, rivalry, jealousy, a dimmed fire, craving attention
Queen of Wands in relationships
As a partner, the Queen of Wands is warm, passionate and independent: interesting to be with, someone who makes you want to do things. She can also be your own charm, which is especially visible now. Reversed, she brings jealousy, a struggle for attention, or self-doubt that makes it hard to believe you’ve truly been chosen. Love without dissolving, and keep your own work and friends.
Queen of Wands at work
At work, the Queen of Wands runs her own area without needing supervision and still notices which colleague could use support. She starts things without waiting for instructions, and her mood is catching: work goes better around her. Reversed, self-doubt can stop you showing your work, or rivalry can sour the team. Share your fire by helping others grow too.
Queen of Wands as advice for the day
Do one thing today that you’d usually wait for permission to do: put an idea forward, work on your own project, say “I’ll take this on”. Then back someone else up: praise a specific piece of their work, share a useful contact or help them take a first step.
